Carolina Seminar • Alloys of Art and Industry in the People’s Poland

September 7, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Eliza Rose is an Associate Professor of Central European Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She researches the visual cultures and literature of Poland and East Central Europe with a focus on science fiction. Her current book project, “Alloys of Art and Industry in the People’s Poland”, is about the historical study of art in the industrial workplace in late-socialist Poland. Additionally, the book highlights the materialistic history of Polish socialism’s attempt to reorganize production and work.

The seminar series is co-sponsored by the Carolina Seminar Program, and the UNC Center for Slavic, Eurasian and East European Studies. Please note that the participants will give an overview of their projects, but will not read a formal paper. Instead, papers or book chapters will be circulated ahead of time to those who are interested in attending and participating in the discussion. Please contact Dr. Eren Tasar for more information (etasar@email.unc.edu).
