Carolina Seminar • Orientalist Theory Meets Imperial Practice – German Impressions of Muslim Soldiers in the Wehrmacht

MAJ Kara Irvin grew up in West Lafayette, Indiana and graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2012. She was commissioned as a Chemical Officer and has served in leadership and staff positions at the platoon, company, and brigade levels. She is currently assigned to the History Department at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY where she teaches twentieth century military history. MAJ Irvin earned her MA in History from the University of Chapel Hill in 2021 and is currently working on her dissertation which examines Nazi Orientalism in Eastern Europe during World War II.
The seminar series is co-sponsored by the Carolina Seminar Program, and the UNC Center for Slavic, Eurasian and East European Studies. Please note that the participants will give an overview of their projects, but will not read a formal paper. Instead, papers or book chapters will be circulated ahead of time to those who are interested in attending and participating in the discussion.
