Lunch&Learn • Recording Eastern Europe

September 11, 2018 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

In this presentation, Dr. Andrea Bohlman (Music, UNC) will share some sound objects – a flexidisc, a map, a transcription, among others – to open a conversation about the role that sound and listening have had in creating knowledge about and imagining Eastern Europe.

Andrea F. Bohlman is an assistant professor in the UNC Music Department. She is a historical musicologist whose research is centered on political stakes of music making in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Through her work, she asserts a place for music and sound in the cultural history of East Central Europe, particularly Poland. She is interested in the methodological challenges posed by the study of the recent past and committed to weaving together archival work, ethnomusicological methods, and close reading

Lunch and Learn is an interactive lecture series highlighting current research by CSEEES faculty affiliates and other scholars in the Triangle. The lectures are open to all interested faculty, students, staff, and community members. Lunch is provided per timely registration. RSVP HERE.
