Film & Discussion • Bellingcat – Truth in a Post-Truth World

This feature documentary follows an international team of open-source investigative journalists trained in social media mining, reconstruction techniques, and visual analysis to shed light on news stories that are shrouded in secrecy, conspiracies, and state-sponsored political spin. These range from the downing of the MH17 passenger airplane over Ukraine in the summer of 2014, the atrocities of the Syrian Civil War, and most recently, the poisoning of a former Russian secret agent in the United Kingdom.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with Aric Toler, Bellingcat’s senior US member. He leads the collective’s Eurasia/Eastern Europe team, focusing on verification of Russian and Ukrainian media, the war in eastern Ukraine, and Russia’s linkages to the American/European far right movements.
