A Sound Map of the Danube: Artist Conversation & Installation

October 26, 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

In A SOUND MAP OF THE DANUBE, Annea Lockwood weaves together field recordings made over the course of several trips along the European subcontinent’s greatest waterway—from its source through the opening of its delta into the Black Sea. The public conversation with Dr. Andrea Bohlman (UNC, Music) will focus on Lockwood’s creative process behind listening to and recording rivers: conversations had while traveling for composition and the sonic qualities of water and wind, metal and sand. Lockwood’s influential career has foregrounded the meditative practices that emerge from close listening as a foundation for healing, environmental awareness, and artistic collectivity.

The conversation will be followed by A SOUND MAP OF THE DANUBE installation opening at the Kenan Music Building, Room 2002. The installation will be on view until October 28.

Please contact Dr. Andrea Bohlman with any questions about the event.

Annea Lockwood is a New Zealand-born American composer and emerita professor at Vassar College where she taught electronic music for many years.
