Book Talk • Intermarriage and the Friendship of Peoples: Ethnic Mixing in Soviet Central Asia

Adrienne Edgar is Professor of History at UC Santa Barbara. She specializes in the history of the Soviet Union, specifically the history of Central Asia in the Soviet period. Her research has focused on the making of nations in early Soviet Central Asia and on nationality, race, and intermarriage in the postwar USSR. Her publications include Tribal Nation: The Making of Soviet Turkmenistan (Princeton UP, 2004) and her widely acclaimed recent book, Intermarriage and the Friendship of Peoples: Ethnic Mixing in Soviet Central Asia (Ithaca: Cornell UP, 2022).
