May 24, 2024 • Virtual

The Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is pleased to invite you to submit paper proposals for a workshop for emerging scholars—M.A. students, Ph.D. students, and post-doctoral researchers—on the study of challenges facing contemporary Eurasian politics and society. We welcome submissions of highquality empirical or theoretical research related to Eurasia in disciplines including, but not limited to, political science, history, environmental studies, sociology, and anthropology. Students and researchers in and from Eurasia are especially encouraged to apply.

We especially welcome participants with working papers at the pre-submission stage. The central goal of the workshop is to provide participants with comprehensive feedback on their research. Participants will receive detailed feedback from leading experts in the field on how to improve their work before submitting it to a journal.

The workshop will take place over Zoom on May 24, 2024. Participants will have 15-20 minutes to present their papers in English. Each presentation will be followed by feedback from a discussant and comments from the audience.

Please send a brief abstract (in English) and 2-page CV using this form. Proposals should clearly articulate the research question, theoretical argument, methodology, and contributions to the field of Eurasian Studies. The deadline for submission is 11:59 PM EST on April 14, 2024. Applicants will be informed of their proposal status by April 21. Those accepted to present will be asked to submit a complete paper by 11:59 PM EST on May 17. Please direct questions regarding the workshop to Bryce Hecht (bwhecht@unc.edu) and Elena Sirotkina (esirotkina@unc.edu).
