Talk • The Sincere Voice, or How Sincerity is Written and Read in Russian (and not only Russian) Poetry

February 25, 2020 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Stuart Goldberg is an associate professor of Russian at Georgia Tech. In this lecture, which lays out key ideas of his book manuscript An Indwelling Voice: Sincerities and Authenticities in Russian Poetry, 1783-2001, he develops a theoretical framework for understanding the functioning of the “sincere voice” in poetry – how it is inscribed, and how it is read. The theoretical analysis is complemented by brief readings giving some demonstrations of how different types of sincere voices function in different periods.

Presented by the Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures.
