Roundtable • Ukraine: One Year After Russia’s Full-Scale Invasion

February 24, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

On the one-year anniversary of Russia’s all-out war on Ukraine, we invite you to join a conversation with scholars from UNC, the Kyiv School of Economics, Dublin City University, and community members with remarkable experiences to share. You will hear from a scholar on the ground in Ukraine, a displaced Ukrainian educator in NC, and an American volunteer in Ukraine. The panelists will address a diverse set of topics, including the sources of Ukrainian resilience, the successes and challenges of international support for Ukraine, Russian war crimes, the changes in public perceptions about the war in Ukraine and Russia, and the stories of animals amid the war.

Panelists include Ivan Gomza (Kyiv School of Economics), Tetyana Lokot (Dublin City University), Olena Halushka (Anti-Corruption Action Center, Kyiv), Graeme Robertson (UNC-CH), Milada Vachudova (UNC-CH), Annika Hugosson (UNC-CH), Irina Borodina (Ukrainian educator) and Dave Jernigan (Chapel Hill volunteer).

The Center stands in solidarity with Ukrainian communities in North Carolina and around the world. We are pleased to organize free transportation for UNC students and staff to the vigil at the State Capitol in Raleigh on the evening of February 24. More info about the event is available here. If you would like to reserve a seat on the shuttle to Raleigh and back, please email Adi Džumhur, CSEEES Associate Director.(dzumhur@email.unc.edu).

This event is presented by the UNC Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies and Friends of Ukraine, a new student organization.
