The Future of Language Learning in North Carolina: K-12 Teacher Webinar

Language-learning experts will engage in a conversation about the direction of teaching and learning of languages in North Carolina, and what changes they hope to see in the future. As the face of North Carolina evolves, and with new developments in pedagogy and technology, this panel will discuss where things are going and how language educators should be meeting new (and old) challenges.

The panelists come from across the state, all with a finger on the pulse of world languages education:
• Dr. Ann Marie Gunter is World Languages Consultant at NC DPI, and will act as the moderator for this discussion. In addition to her current work for the state, she is a former a French teacher.
• Prof. L.J. Randolph is Associate Professor of Spanish and Education at UNC-Wilmington and Coordinator of World Language Teacher Education. He is also a leader in thinking about ways to promote social justice in the context of language teaching.
• Prof. Ana Cecilia Lara is Director of Foreign Languages and Coordinator of Spanish Teacher Licensure at UNC-Pembroke. She is also an expert in Latin American literature, cultural studies, and applied linguistics.
• Prof. Kristin J. Davin is an associate professor of Foreign Language Education in the Cato College of Education at UNC-Charlotte. Although she has a background in Spanish, she is also coordinating the training of teachers for a wide variety of languages (including many less-commonly-taught languages) through UNC-C’s M.A.T. in Foreign Language Education.

This event is a collaboration of the UNC-Duke area studies centers and the NC Department of Public Instruction.
