Central Asia Working Group • Changes in Central Asia after Independence

Join us for the Central Asia Working Group’s first event of the year with Zumrat Salmarbekova, The presentation will provide a brief overview of socio-political changes in Central Asia since independence. It will look at the similarities and differences in development and human security challenges. The presenter will share her field experience and observations relating to the issue.

Zumrat Salmorbekova is an independent international peace and development specialist with over seventeen years of experience in designing, managing and evaluating international projects. She has been serving as an evaluation team lead for numerous peacebuilding, development and humanitarian aid initiatives funded by USAID, the U.S. State Department, DFID, and other donors in Central Asia and Eastern Europe. As a Rotary World Peace Fellow, Zumrat completed her Master’s degree in Russian and East European Studies at UNC-CH, with interdisciplinary concentrations in political science and international peace and development. She is a visiting lecturer in the Global Studies Curriculum, where she teaches a graduate-level seminar on Monitoring and Evaluation for Peacebuilding Interventions.
