Carolina Seminar • Steppes to Health: How the Climate-Kumys Cure Shaped a New Steppe Imaginary

Dr. Maya Peterson is an associate professor of History at UC Santa Cruz. Her research stands at the intersection of environmental history and imperial history. Peterson explores the inner workings of empires and how they function by focusing on how the physical environment of an empire might open up new avenues for thinking about modernity and colonial relationships.

The Carolina Seminar: Russia and Its Empires, East and West is co-sponsored by the Carolina Seminar Program, the UNC Department of History, and the Center for Slavic, Eurasian and East European Studies.
