Carolina Seminar • Operation Velehrad, 1950: Communism, Catholicism, and Popular Tradition in Czechoslovakia

March 23, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Mira Markham is a PhD student at the UNC Department of History. Her dissertation examines how citizens in a rural region of Czechoslovakia engaged with state power while also maintaining and defending their traditional local identities, practices, and relationships during the period of political transition immediately after the Second World War.

The seminar series is co-sponsored by the Carolina Seminar Program, the UNC Department of History, the UNC Center for Slavic, Eurasian and East European Studies. Please note that the participants will give an overview of their projects, but will not read a formal paper. Instead, papers or book chapters will be circulated ahead of time to those who are interested in attending and participating in the discussion. Please contact Dr. Eren Tasar for more information (etasar@email.unc.edu).
