Q: Where did you study as an undergraduate? What was your major (s)?
“I received my undergraduate degree from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. I graduated with a BA in International Affairs and Cultural Anthropology, a Minor in History and a Concentration in Middle East Studies.”
Q: Why did you choose UNC CSEEES?
“This program presented an opportunity to further my knowledge of and involvement in the Eastern European region, while allowing for continued interaction with the general field of Global Studies through the Global Studies Department and curriculum.”
Q: Why did you choose to study this region of the globe?
“I chose to study abroad in Russia on a whim and instantly fell in love with the country. Working in policy in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucuses at the DoS provided a look into the complex nature of regional identities, ethnic conflicts, and politics. I saw an opportunity to apply my interest in humanitarian work in a region that is still developing its sense of identity and structure. No matter how much I learn about or work in the region, it never ceases to surprise me!”
Q: Do you have work and/or study experience in the region?
“During my undergraduate studies, I studied abroad for a semester in St. Petersburg, Russia. I also interned in the Office of Europe, Central Asia and the Caucuses at the US Department of State’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration.”
Q: What are your research interests?
“Migration patterns and issues, humanitarian assistance and development in protracted conflicts and the influence and effects of military presence in humanitarian operations.”
Q: What is your dream job?
“My dream job is to be a Foreign Service Officer for the US Department of State or a Migration Protection Officer for UNHCR.”
Q: What are your hobbies? What do you like doing in your free time?
“I love traveling, attempting to cook, and hiking with my dogs.”
