UNC-CSEEES Associate Director Change: Zumrat Salmorbekova
It is with a mixture of pride and sadness that UNC's Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies announces that Dr. Jacqueline Olich has resigned as Associate Director to accept a new position at the Research Triangle Institute International (RTI). For seven years, Dr. Olich has been central to the operations and development of CSEEES. She has mentored students, encouraged colleagues, and helped to expand and improve the activities of the Center. Throughout this period, she has been a trusted partner with me as we worked to provide quality services to our entire community.
Please join me in congratulating Jacqueline on her new position. Though we will miss her steady hand, we are happy for her and pleased to be gaining a new ally at RTI.
Ms. Zumrat Salmorbekova (MA RUES '09) is now Interim Associate Director of CSEEES, a position which she has held since February 24th. As Interim Associate Director, Zumrat will have primary responsibility for coordinating Center outreach activities and administering the Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship Program, which is funded by a grant from the US Department of Education. In addition, she will also be involved in a variety of other programs at CSEEES. We will update you in the future about the process of hiring a permanent Associate Director.
