Q: Where did you study as an undergraduate? What was your major (s)?
I studied history at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Q: Why did you choose UNC CSEEES?
I chose CSEEES because of the reputation of the university and the program’s open structure that allows me to take language, history and politics classes that are relevant to my research.
Q: Why did you choose to study this region of the globe?
I am enamored with the complexity of politics in the region and I really enjoyed my time visiting the region.
Q: Do you have work and/or study experience in the region?
I participated in a field study trip to Bosnia-Herzegovina with the Conflict Studies Department from the Universiteit Utrecht, while on exchange in the Netherlands in April 2010.
Q: What is your thesis topic?
Intelligence culture in Yugoslavia during the early Cold War years.
Q: What is your dream job?
My dream job would be in academics, focusing on intelligence and Eastern Europe.
Q: What are your hobbies? What do you like doing in your free time?
For hobbies, I enjoy hiking, fishing, reading and traveling. In my free time, I enjoy watching the Chicago Bulls and catching up on reading.

I lived in Tasmania for a year after graduating from undergrad and worked at various points as a: research assistant, examine invigilator, moving specialist, waiter, bartender and boat cleaner.
