Bio: Dr. Valerie Kivelson is a Professor in the Department of History at the University of Michigan. She recieved her Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1988. Her fields of study include medieval and early modern Russia, the history of cartography, comparative witchcraft, religion, politics and culture. From 1997 to 2000, she was awarded the Arthur F. Thurnau Professorship and served as a Member of the Board of Directors for the National Council for Eurasian and East European Research from 2000 to 2006.
