Samuel Greene will survey the role of social media in political mobilization during Russia’s turbulent 2011-2012 election season.  Drawing on more than 11,000 Twitter messages sent by roughly 8,5000 users during the March 2012 presidential elections and subsequent protests, Greene constructs oppositional, pro-government and neutral ‘meme’ distribution networks and draws early conclusions about the ways in which competing mobilizational groups used Twitter during this contentious period.
