      Summary: Dr. Martin Miller will be discussing a selection from his most recent book, forthcoming from Cambridge University Press, "The Foundations of Modern Terrorism: State, Society, and the Dynamics of Political Violence".

      Bio: Martin A. Miller holds appointments in both the Department of History and the Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies at Duke University. He received his PhD in Russian history at the University of Chicago and has taught at Stanford University and the New School for Social Research in addition to conducting visiting university seminars in Paris, Venice, and Istanbul. Professor  Miller has conducted archival research in Russia and Western Europe, and has been the recipient of a number of fellowships, including two from the National Endowment for the Humanities. He has published four books and numerous articles on revolutionary movements in Russia, including Freud and the Bolsheviks: Psychoanalysis in Imperial Russia and the Soviet Union (Yale, 1998), which has been translated into French and Spanish.
