Film Screening and Panel Discussion: Women of Maidan (2016)

October 25, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us for a film screening of Women of Maidan (2016) and conversation with the filmmaker Olha Onyshko, Trevor Erlacher (History, UNC), and Georgiy Kasianov (Visiting Fulbright Scholar).

The documentary Women of Maidan takes viewers behind the scenes of one of the most riveting news stories to come out of Eastern Europe in recent years: Ukraine’s Revolution of Dignity. Peaceful protest that began at Kiev’s central square in November 2013 culminated in the ouster of the country’s president in February 2014, after weeks of violent and fatal clashes between police forces and the protesters, many of whom were students and women. The film looks specifically at the role women played in removing a corrupt political system and defining a new future for Ukraine.
